Bag Weight Policy

Bag Weight Policy

The Bag Weight Policy aims to safeguard the physical health and well-being of students by regulating the weight of school bags, as recommended by the Ministry of Education. Heavy bags can lead to long-term posture and spinal issues amongst children. This policy sets clear weight limits based on grade levels and promotes measures such as proper time-tabling, use of lockers, and avoiding unnecessary materials, ensuring a stress-free and student-friendly learning environment.

Parental Advisory: Choosing the Right School Bag

Parents are advised to choose lightweight, ergonomic school bags for their children with the following features:

  • Padded, adjustable shoulder straps to distribute weight evenly
  • Multiple compartments to organize materials and reduce strain
  • Proper size – the bag should not be wider or longer than the child’s torso
  • Avoid trolley bags as they may cause wrist or shoulder strain
Always ensure the bag is comfortable and does not exceed the recommended weight limit.
  • The lunch box and pencil box should be light weight.

Flexibility in the school time-table

The school time table is student friendly. The school time table is flexible providing adequate space for sports and physical education, reading of books available in school other than the textbooks, art and crafts etc.

Monitoring of School Bag Weight

Weight of the school bag of classes I to V will be monitored quarterly. Information regarding excessive bag weight will be shared with the parents for taking corrective measures.
