Objective

In today’s world, electronic gadgets are present everywhere. As an educational institution, the school is responsible for providing internet access and IT devices/equipment to support student learning and ensure smooth school operations.

However, these technologies—whether school-provided or personally owned by staff, students, or community members—can also enable anti-social, inappropriate, or illegal activities. The school has a dual responsibility to maximize the benefits of technology while minimizing and managing associated risks.

Therefore, effective and rigorous Cyber Safety practice, must be in place in the school environment as under:.

 

NEED FOR A CYBER POLICY
“To protect information and infrastructure in cyberspace, develop awareness and capabilities to prevent and respond to various cyber threats, reduce vulnerabilities, and minimize damage from untoward cyber incidents through institutional structures, people, processes, technology, and cooperation.”

CYBER POLICY
This policy applies when students use Gurugram Global Height School’s IT equipment, services, or resources, whether at school or home.

• Students must not eat or drink near IT devices.
• School equipment must be respected. Students should not move IT equipment or cables.
• Any damage to equipment must be reported to the teacher immediately.
• Flash drives or external media (cell phones, hard disks, CDs, cameras, etc.) must not be used to:
  • Save or transfer work
  • Install software
    without the computer faculty’s permission.
• Accessing social media, registering on websites, or downloading material must only be done under supervision of teachers.
• Internet use in the computer lab is permitted only with the computer faculty’s permission. IDs may be checked.
• Devices like iPads, iPods,Pendrives, Gaming Devices, and mobile phones or any other such devices are not allowed. The same confiscated item/items will be kept by the school.
• Cyber bullying and any misuse of IT will be reported to teachers or parents immediately.

BREACH OF CYBER POLICY
Any reported breach will be hereunder dealt with the school’s Behavior Management Policy.

• Minor breaches (e.g., installing software, unauthorized internet use, or bringing devices without permission) may result in imposition of monetary fine as deemed fit by the school.
• Major breaches (e.g., cyber bullying, identity theft) may result in an imposition of heavy monetary fine including  suspension of up to ten days or both as deemed fit by the school.
• Committing online misconduct of any nature  that affects others’ well-being, even outside school hours or off-site, may lead to disciplinary action by the Principal/VP/HM including suspension from the school.
• If a device is suspected to contain evidence of a crime (e.g., assault), it will be confiscated and handed over to the police for further necessary action.
• Suspected electronic crimes will be reported to the Police.. Devices containing evidence may be given to Investigating Officers, regardless of where or when the incident occurred.

GUIDELINES FOR PARENTS

• Keep computers in open areas, not the bedrooms.
• Set clear and domestic regulations as per expectations based on age and maturity.
• Install parental control software with a personal locking system.
• Learn internet basics and model responsible behavior for purposeful usage.

TIPS TO PREVENT AND IDENTIFY CYBER BULLYING

• Monitor behavior and mood changes.
• Talk well in advance about cyber bullying before its occurrence.
• Be aware of your child’s online activity.
• Keep communication open to encourage sharing while learning.
• Teach safe and respectful online interaction.
• Help block and report offensive users.

GUIDELINES FOR SAFE INTERNET USE

• Don’t share personal details (address, phone number).
• Keep passwords and PINs private.
• Don’t share others’ personal information or make harmful jokes.
• Never leave devices functional and  unattended.
• Don’t open unknown emails or attachments.
• Don’t make online friends with strangers.
• Never meet online contacts in person.
• Report any disturbing content to parents or teachers.
• Don’t reveal personal info in messages or profiles.
• Don’t send photos to strangers.
• Be aware of online identity deception or impersonation.
• Use chatroom blocking features.
• Be cautious when sharing photos.
• Use privacy settings on social networks.
• Don’t engage in cyber bullying or post embarrassing content.
• Download content carefully.
• Be aware of various statutory rules and regulations regarding ‘cyber safety’ issued /shared by various government agencies time to time.
